I got to stay at this property a few times before when it was still Remington Hotel at Resorts World Manila. During my recent visit to Manila for a Cebu Pacific event, I finally got to stay at the rebranded property, Holiday Inn Express Manila Newport City.

Before the takeover, the hotel was already good, average at best. There were no changes done to the hotel structure. I believe most of the renovations were done on the rooms, facilities and common areas to elevate it to be consistent with the standards of IHG, the international hotel chain.

Upon entry, the reception area was busy as ever. Check-in took around 30 minutes. We came from an early morning flight and an event and so I wanted to be settled in the room as soon as possible.

Room

Holiday Inn Express Manila features 737 rooms. Although, the room size is still the same, the room feels more spacious compared to its predecessor, probably because it features a fresher blue color scheme.

The room is equipped with a flat-screen cable TV, wifi, a work desk, premium beddings, and their signature soft and firm pillows. The desk houses the mini-refrigerator, coffee and tea-making supplies and complimentary bottled water. The room also comes with a mini sofa by the window. The separate hanging closet beside the bed also has the in-room safe, and in-room slippers.

I loved the bed and pillows. Those plus the blackout curtains made for an amazing sleep. I also appreciate the desk-level electrical outlets.

The bathroom was small but didn’t feel cramped. The walk-in shower is separated from the vanity area. It was easy to control the water temperature of the shower. There is a wall-mounted hair dryer. The toilet came with a bidet. And I was so pleased that they use the same branded paraben-free toiletries I first encountered at Holiday Inn Cebu City!

Breakfast

The breakfast buffet at Holiday Inn Express Manila was simple but filling, mostly Filipino with some continental selections plus a coffee and beverage station. I was a bit disheartened that they didn’t have bacon though, haha.

Amenities

There’s not much to do at the hotel since it caters mostly to guests in transit, but it has a limited fitness gym, meeting room, coin-operated laundry, and a co-working space at the lobby. Still very much a complete hotel with all the basic requirements a smart and savvy traveler could look for. Anyway, there is a full service mall, and several dining outlets just across the street.

Verdict

Holiday Inn Express Manila Newport City works best for quick stays, especially for those who have early morning flights and wish to stay somewhere near to avoid the traffic. You might also want to spend a night here if you plan to party the night away at the club (House Manila) located at the hotel podium or the casinos in Newport World Resorts.
