HMD Global, home of the Nokia phones, joined in the pre-highlight celebration of the Masskara Festival by flying in bloggers and media to announce in Bacolod City the availability of two new phones in their portfolio: the Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Nokia 5.1 Plus.

I was so lucky to be one of the chosen few to be invited to the event and be among the first to experience firsthand what the new phones have to offer.

The two smartphones feature an all-screen design, high-end performance, and smart AI imaging features with pure, secure and up-to-date Android One experience, at impressive price points.

If there’s such a thing as “love at first touch”, it has to be with the Nokia 6.1 Plus. With its all-screen design, it gives a bigger screen experience in a slim and compact body. I actually felt like it needed a case or else my clumsy self could have dropped it. Its 5.8-inch full HD+ screen with 19:9 ratio allows for a vivid viewing experience, but like almost all new smartphones in the market, this one has a tiny notch.

I could say that this phone is great for content creators, and for viewing all of those content. The Nokia 6.1 Plus has a dual rear camera (16 megapixels/5 megapixels) which allows us to take professional-style pictures using bokeh blur, which can be adjusted in real-time while the image is being taken, or after, when it is already on your gallery.

The 16 megapixel front camera is not to be left behind. I particularly liked the details on the front-facing camera. It was as if I was facing a mirror. It has an adjustable beauty function, which still looks natural.

Bothie Mode

One groundbreaking feature on the two new phones is the Bothie mode, which allows you to take a video with the front and rear cameras simultaneously recording. You can even stream live directly to Facebook, and YouTube from the camera app, and Nokia has done this first.

I wasn’t really able to test it that much, but the Nokia 5.1 Plus is powered with a MediaTek Helio P60 processor, usually seen in higher-tiered smartphones. With that, this smartphone is designed to deliver precise power to handle gaming, video or multitasking applications with ease. It would have been perfect for my Mobile Legends addiction, haha.

Looks wise, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is almost identical to the Nokia 6.1 Plus, except that the former has a slightly bigger notch.
