Moments earlier, realme just launched the latest smartphone in its C series, its newest entry-level distruptor, the realme C55!

The realme C55 is available in, for the first time in the C series, a massive 6GB+128GB storage variant for P8,999 and 8GB+256GB for P10,999 in three color options: Sunshower, Rainforest, and Rainy Night. Just in time for the peak of the summer season is the launch of a very sunny phone, packed with a lot of firsts in the sub-10k segment.

1. Premium “Gen Z” look

realme is known for its unique back covers with every new release, which resonates with the youthful energy and modern vibe of their market, and the realme C55 is no different as it features a modern aesthetic squared off boxy design with rounded corners giving it a premium look and really nice grip despite its slim body.

The unit with me is the Sunshower variant, and it’s definitely a “looker”, especially when it interact with light. And what I like about it is the matte finish so it does not attract fingerprint marks and smudges.

2. Slim and Lightweight plus Large Display

The realme C55 boasts a lot of firsts in its C-series lineup. At 7.89mm, it is the slimmest in the realme C-series. It weights 189.5g. The phone also comes with a free “jelly case” for added protection.

The realme C55 offers an immersive viewing experience with its 6.7″ FHD+ Display, the largest display on a realme C-series phone yet, with a screen-to-body ratio of 91.4%. It also comes with a 90Hz refresh rate, and although it was not as snappy as I expected it to be, I’m sure it will be rectified in a software update.

On the left side of the phone is the dual SIM and microSD tray. On the right side are the volume up and down buttons and the power button which doubles as a fingerprint sensor. On the bottom are the microphone, the earphone jack, speaker grille, and micro USB jack.

3. 5000 MAH massive battery + 33W fast charging

For me, bringing along a powerbank is so 2019. realme C55’s 5000 MAH battery is capable enough to last you several days with average usage, and it can last you throughout the day with relatively heavy usage (gaming, Netflix, social media). One Mobile Legends game, which extends for up to 30 minutes cuts battery life by around 5%. I can go out the whole day with my phone without having to worry about my battery, so it’s definitely perfect for people on the go.

Compared to my previous C-series phone, the C33, which does not support fast charging, the realme C55 is able to sustain 33W SUPERVOOC Charging capabilites, which allows for really fast charging. Based on experience, the realme C55 can be charged up to 50% in around 30 minutes, and fully charged in a little over an hour!

4. First “Mini Capsule” in the Philippines

The realme C55 is the first entry-level Android smartphone in the Philippines to feature a “Mini Capsule”, which opens more possibilities when it is further developed.

The Mini Capsule is designed to show detailed information for selected items for now, including:
• Charging & Battery Status
• Mobile Data Usage
• Step Tracking / Step Counting

In a future software update, the Mini Capsule will be “always on”.

5. 64MP AI Camera

The realme C55 can take sharp and clear photos especially with good light. It is bannered by its main 64MP AI Camera + 2MP Camera on its rear paired with Number series software features and optimizations such as Street Mode 3.0 and ProLight Imaging Technology and other photography modes catered for different needs.

For the front camera, it is an 8MP Selfie Camera. Very much usable outdoors but quite on the softer end indoors.

For videos, the camera does not come with stabilization so it’s a no for me especially with my shaky hands.

Verdict

The realme C55 is a competitive entry-level phone in the sub-10k segment. It is perfect for GenZs who are into overall aesthetics, and treat their phone as part of their “OOTD” or lifestyles. It is a nice phone for parents who want a no-frills smartphone that doesn’t break the bank and it could also serve as their kids’ first-ever smartphone. Most of all, it is the ideal phone for the practical individuals who are on the lookout for an all-around smartphone that can keep up with their day-to-day needs, that has an above average camera, streaming, multi-tasking capabilities and some gaming on the side.

At its price point, it faces fierce competition, but existing realme users would likely pick this one due to the familiarity and ease-of-use of its user interface.
