Taytayan is the Cebuano word for bridge and this initiative by the Lapu-Lapu City Government, in a joint effort with Soline Publishing, Inc. will do just that.

Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Officer Hembler Mendoza, and Soline Publishing Inc.’s business unit manager Nikki Oguis announced that the city will soon be launching a coffee-table book that will bridge the rich history and heritage of the city, from being a mere island lookout to becoming what is now a regional gateway, while looking forward to what the future holds for the “Historic Resort City”.

The collaboration will work on a budget of P1.3 million. To be released on November, in time for the city’s tourism expo and annual fiesta, 1,000 copies will initially be printed and sold at a pre-selling price of P1,500. The proceeds of the said effort will be used for the city’s multiple tourism initiatives. The city is also working on arranging consignments with hotels and resorts.

I am particularly excited by this because, while I am a resident of Lapu-Lapu City, I do not know much about the city’s history. The book is not intended to be too scholarly, and it will be more visual, so I cannot wait to scan through its 200 pages.
