After nine years, I finally revisited the Island Born of Fire, Camiguin, and stayed at the newly opened UNWND Boutique Hotel Camiguin. I had an incredible time and want to share with you 10 reasons why this charming boutique hotel should be your next vacation destination.

1. Convenient Airport Transfers

Located just 5 km (a 10-15 minute drive) from Camiguin Airport, UNWND Boutique Hotel offers convenient airport transfers upon request. We were warmly welcomed by the hotel staff dancing to BINI’s popular tunes, setting a festive tone from the moment we arrived!

2. Exceptional Service with a Smile

The staff at UNWND Camiguin are friendly, accommodating, and genuinely welcoming. From the security team to the housekeeping staff, everyone ensures you feel right at home from check-in to check-out.

3. A Variety of Accommodation Options

Family Room

Whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple, or part of a group, UNWND Camiguin has the perfect room for you. Options range from Family Rooms to Executive Suites, Junior Suites, Luxury Double, Luxury King, and Luxury Queen. They even offer accessible rooms for guests with special needs, as well as interconnected rooms for larger groups.

4. Comfortable and Well-Appointed Rooms

Coming from an early morning flight, we were in desperate need of rest upon arrival, and our rooms provided just that. Tasteful youthful decor featuring local art greeted us once we stepped into our Luxury Double Room which was connected to our friend’s Luxury King Room.

Each room was fully-equipped with necessities. The beds and pillows provided maximum comfort. The room has a flat-screen cable TV, and telephone. There is a desk for digital nomads, and WiFi can be accessed all around the property. Air conditioning was easy to operate and was cold enough. This was important to me being temperature-sensitive (a.k.a. “maarte). The room also has an electronic safe for our valuables. Power sockets are strategically located near the beds and desk. There is a clothes rack and bathrobes for in-room use are available, with in-room slippers underneath. A mini refrigerator and electric kettle, with instant coffee and tea on the side, complete the amenities in the room.

The toilet & bath also came complete with fresh-smelling towels, a rain shower head and a bidet. One thing commendable about UNWND is their effort on sustainability as their toiletries do not come in small single-use plastic containers but in larger refillable dispensers. Also, instead of plastic drinking water bottles, each room is provided with a refillable glass bottle. Yay!

The balcony, which afforded a glorious view of the sea, had lounge chairs, and a clothes drying rack.

5. Delicious Dining at Mamser!

Mamser!, the all-day dining restaurant of UNWND Camiguin was named after the endearing term used by food service staff to greet guests, Mamser! Here, each meal is memorable as its menu consisting of mostly Filipino comfort food definitely hits close to home. The restaurant is already quite popular as locals walk in just to dine, at any time of the day.

Their Seafood Boodle is perfect for families and small groups. Other notable dishes include seafood kare-kare, pork belly, crispy pata, tuna belly, bulalo, and their UNWND four cheese pizza (must-try!). They also serve sorbetes (ice cream) in chili, lanzones, charcoal, taro, and other flavors.

Plated ala-carte breakfasts are also served here. Loved their danggit, beef tapa and chicken tocino. Their sikwate (hot chocolate) is so rich, it’s the perfect day starter.

6. Beachside Fun at What’s Your Poison?

WYP or What’s Your Poison is the ultimate beachside hangout, located just by the pool. Whether day drinking to unwind after a long day of island activities, or a night out with friends, WYP will make sure that you will have a good time. A wide variety of drinks and bar chow are available, including regular cocktails and signature cocktails. Their amaretto sour is one of the best I’ve tried.

I also got to taste for the first time “Hubugka”, the hotel chain’s signature drink. Based on coconut rum, the drink embodies the chill spirit of UNWND and definitely possesses the tropical vibe!

7. Stunning Sunset Views

Located on the northwestern coast of Camiguin, UNWND Boutique Hotel offers breathtaking sunset views that you can enjoy from various spots around the property.

8. Art of Being Chill

UNWND Boutique Hotel Camiguin promotes the art of unwinding amidst the island’s tranquil setting. It provides the amenities for us to rejuvenate our senses, allowing us to immerse ourselves into the serene beauty of Camiguin while indulging in ultimate relaxation.

Witness breathtaking sunsets from plush couches at The Sundeck, where nature’s beauty meets comfort. Sip on refreshing drinks or simply soak in the ambiance for an unforgettable experience.

Their pool with allows for basking in the sun in tranquil waters surrounded by breathtaking vistas. They also have an ocean-view Jacuzzi. Bubbles, waves, and a view – the perfect way to practice the art of being chill.

The hotel also has a Play and Lounge area where guests can enjoy timeless games in a laid-back atmosphere.

9. One with the Community

UNWND Camiguin actively supports the local community by hosting events like Sundown Sessions, Open Mic Nights, and even their first-ever Pride Night, giving local talent a platform to shine.

10. Hassle-Free Island Tours

Camiguin is a small island which can be navigated in a day or two. But based on my previous visit to the island, it can be quite a headache to deal with local “multicab” drivers for their island tours. Aside from negotiating the price, most of these drivers-cum-tour guides don’t really guide you. They just take you from one destination to the next without providing anything educational about the spot you’re visiting.

At UNWND Boutique Hotel Camiguin, save yourself the hassle, and approach the front desk if you wish to do island tours.

Conclusion

My stay at UNWND Boutique Hotel Camiguin was the perfect escape after nine years away. Though two nights were not enough, I’ll definitely be back to explore more of this beautiful island paradise! Isle Come Again!
