Over the past few days, I’ve been using the realme C33, the latest smartphone in the realme C series, released only in October 2022. Just a little background story: Since owning the first ever realme smartphone, the realme C1 in January 2019, I’ve never laid my hands on another model in the realme C series but I also owned the realme 6, 9i and 9.

The realme C33 is available in 4GB+64GB storage variant for P7,499 in three color options: Night Sea, Aqua Blue, and Sandy Gold. T’is the season for gift-giving, so is the realme C33 a great Christmas gift? Let’s weigh in.

1. Boundless Sea Design

realme is known for its unique back covers with every new release, which resonates with the youthful energy and modern vibe of their market, and the realme C33’s back features as Boundless Sea Design. It has no camera island making the design more flowy and minimalist. Especially when it interacts with light, the back cover looks very stylish, as if there were glitters on it. The unit with me is the Night Sea variant, and while it looks very premium, one con about it is that it is more prone to fingerprints and smudges.

The realme C33 offers an immersive viewing experience with its 6.5″ HD+ LCD Display, with a screen-to-body ratio of 88.7%. If you’re thinking about streaming like Netflix, yes it is very much capable but only until Standard Definition with its Widevine L3 certification.

2. Slim and Lightweight

The realme C33 is 8.3mm slim and 187g light, slim enough to fit in your pocket and light enough to fit in your bag.

Despite being slim and light, its grip was good. The phone does not come with a free jelly case.

On the left side of the phone is the dual SIM and microSD tray. On the right side are the volume up and down buttons and the power button which doubles as a fingerprint sensor. On the bottom are the microphone, the earphone jack, speaker grille, and micro USB jack.

3. 5000MAH massive battery

For me, bringing along a powerbank is so 2019. realme C33’s 5000 MAH battery is capable enough to last you several days with average usage, and it can last you throughout the day with relatively heavy usage (gaming, Netflix, social media). I can go out the whole day with my phone without having to worry about my battery, and as soon as I get home, I can charge it right away. One major issue for me is the lack of fast charging since its charging is capped at 10 watts. To recharge an empty battery, you’d have to wait for around three hours.

4. Power efficient processor

The realme C33 is backed by the capable and battery efficient 12nm octa-core Unisoc T612 Processor which allows multi-tasking and switching between apps with ease and without consuming too much power. I tried to play Mobile Legends on the max settings available and the gameplay was smooth enough. Each game of 20-30 minutes reduced battery life by 2-4%.

5. 50MP AI Camera

The realme C33 can take sharp and clear photos especially with good light. It is bannered by its main 50MP AI Camera + 0.3MP Camera on its rear with a variety of photography modes catered for different needs.

For the front camera, it is a 5MP Selfie Camera. Very much usable outdoors but quite on the softer end indoors.

For videos, the camera does not come with stabilization so it’s a no for me especially with my shaky hands.

Verdict

I think the realme C33 is a good entry-level phone and is the perfect Christmas gift for not-so-tech-savvy individuals who have yet to experience a smartphone like our grandparents or young ones. It is also a good choice for those with basic needs like social media, video streaming, and gaming. At its price point, it faces intense competition, but existing realme users would likely pick this one due to the familiarity and ease-of-use of its user interface.
