Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has been recognized with a Level 1 Accessibility Accreditation from the Airports Council International (ACI) for its outstanding efforts to create a more accessible and inclusive travel environment for Persons-With-Disabilities (PWD). This accreditation reflects MCIA’s commitment to providing a seamless travel experience for all passengers, particularly those with special needs.
PWD-Friendly Amenities at MCIA
To support PWD travelers, MCIA offers a range of facilities designed to ensure comfort and convenience:
• Wheelchair Assistance: Available upon request to assist PWD passengers throughout their airport journey.
• PWD-Friendly Washrooms: Equipped with accessible features, including grab bars, lowered sinks, and emergency call buttons.
• Ramp Passageways and Lifts: Provide easy access to different areas of the airport for travelers using wheelchairs or with limited mobility.
• Reserved Seating and Priority Boarding: Designated seating areas and priority boarding calls for PWD passengers ensure a stress-free travel experience.
These amenities comply with the Accessibility Law (Batas Pambansa Bilang 344), adhering to the required standards for vanities, grab bars, and water closet heights.
Commitment to Inclusive Travel
“Travel should be a privilege, not a burden. That’s why we designed PWD-friendly amenities that cater to PWDs and their families,” said Athanasios Titonis, Chief Executive Officer of Aboitiz InfraCapital GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation.
One of the key advancements at MCIA includes the integration of sliding doors in PWD-friendly restrooms, emergency push buttons, and designated seating areas to ensure maximum comfort and accessibility for all travelers.
Continuous Improvement Through Community Collaboration
MCIA is dedicated to continuously improving its facilities to better serve all passengers. The airport holds an annual forum with PWD groups to gather valuable insights and suggestions for enhancing the travel experience for PWD travelers.
“We ensure accessible travel for all by complying with global travel standards and actively seeking input from the PWD community,” said Ricia Montejo, Head of Customer Experience at Aboitiz InfraCapital GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation.
MCIA’s collaborative approach aims to make the airport more inclusive, ensuring that every traveler can enjoy a safe and comfortable journey.
